This 177-household project, located south of Nairobi, houses members of four housing cooperatives who earn low incomes through informal work. Homes typically consist of two rooms and a toilet, but are designed to be expanded up to a three-bedroom house.
The majority of these homeowners previously lived in rented accommodation where they were without access to basic services and infrastructure, most notably a clean water supply. The project is located near to the Mombasa Road which provides useful urban public transport links. All clients benefitting from the project were advanced with micro-mortgage loans by NACHU, to be paid back over 5 years.
Clients estimated to sit between 21st and 30th percentiles of incomes in Nairobi
