Representatives from thirteen of Reall’s Network of Development Enterprises attended the event from all over Africa and Asia, including from as far afield as Pakistan and the Philippines. The network model is what sets Reall apart as an organisation as we continue to create a market at the bottom of the income pyramid. With no-one else operating this model, the Stakeholders Group conference provides the ideal opportunity for the Reall Network, our funding partners and key players in the affordable housing sphere, to come together to share best practise, learnings and expertise.
We were delighted to welcome Kecia Rust and Kgomotso Tolamo from the Centre for Affordable Housing Finance in Africa; Kecia had everyone enthralled with her engaging and informative presentation as she discussed the current housing finance situation in Africa. The CAHF website is full of incredibly insightful information, including the recently developed Africa-wide Mortgage Affordability Calculator.
We also had the opportunity to visit two of EDH’s projects in Lilongwe; their ground-breaking EcoBricks Kiln and the innovative social rental housing project, Likuni Meadows (pictured above). The impact of these projects is staggering on communities and the lives on individuals who not only benefit from decent housing and a safe neighbourhood, but also clean water, proper sanitation, employment and income generation opportunities, good infrastructure and access to services such as healthcare and education.
We gathered everyone together at the end of the conference to take a brilliant time lapse photo, you can view this below.
