Reaching the point where we are able to build in Mozambique represents significant success in itself, as the housing sector is highly dysfunctional. In 2017 the cheapest house being sold on the official market was $55,000 (USD). With current mortgage conditions, this would only be available to 1% of the population.
One of the biggest challenges was to convince our clients and partners that we could actually produce quality housing for $10,000 (USD) or less.
The Municipality of Beira has been a key supporter of this project. They are so keen for more affordable and accessible housing in the city that they have provided Reall with appropriate land, expedited all building permissions and completed all site preparations to ensure cheap and quick construction. Reall are currently in discussion with investors to finance the building of a further 90 units.
